Becca Pryse

Becca joined Ewald Consulting in 2005 and is the Vice President of Public Affairs, overseeing the company’s government and media relations functions. She has 14 years of legislative experience as a staff person in the Minnesota House of Representatives and the Wisconsin State Assembly. In the Minnesota House, Becca worked as a communication specialist and committee administrator, and most recently served as the Director of Research and Legislative Services. Becca graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Becca is an alumni member of the American Council of Young Political Leaders, a Board Member of the Minnesota Government Relations Council, and Board Member of Bridges to Learning, a non-profit organization.

What you don't know about Becca...

Q. What do you love about government relations?
A. I really love helping our clients problem solve and find strategies to impact public policy, and I love being a part of a team of that is always searching for the best outcomes for our clients.

Q. What is the last book you read that you would recommend?
A. Home Is a Roof Over a Pig, by Aminta Arrington. It’s a memoir of a family’s adventures while living, working, and traveling in China for two years.

Q. What is your favorite city?
A. I think I left a piece of my heart in Sevilla, Spain years ago when I lived there for a semester during college. I pretty much love everything about the city.

Q. What is the best professional advice you ever received?
A. Do what you say you will do.


Valerie Dosland

Valerie Dosland is the Director of Government Affairs at Ewald Consulting, where she provides government relations and lobbying services to clients in the areas of early childhood and K-12 education. Valerie assists her clients in policy development, lobbying and monitoring of legislative activities as well as grassroots development and engagement. Prior to joining Ewald Consulting in 2005, she worked for nine years at the Minnesota House of Representatives as a research consultant specializing in the areas of early childhood and K-12 education. Valerie is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a B.A., is an alumni of the U of M’s Humphrey Policy Fellows program, and serves on the board of the YMCA Youth in Government Program.

What you don't know about Valerie...

Q. What is the last book you read that you would recommend?
A. Help, Thanks, Wow by Anne Lamott. It’s a simple book about asking for help, saying thanks and being grateful for both the ordinary and amazing things in life.

Q. What is your favorite city?
A. Marquette, Michigan. My in-laws have a cabin in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and Marquette is close by. After spending more than 11 years travelling up to the UP, I have grown to love Marquette. It’s a small town but has a lot of great things to offer, from bike trails, a local farmers market, a great bookstore, a quirky candy store/diner/malt shop and people oriented toward doing good.

Q. What is the best professional advice you ever received?
A. Tell your clients what you are going to do, tell them when you do it, and let them know what happened.

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working?
A. I’m a very active person and love to spend time outdoors. In the summer, you can often find me doing something bicycle-related. In the winter, I love to cross-country ski or snowshoe. I also love hot yoga, travelling, reading, cooking and dining out.


Patrick Lobejko

Patrick joined Ewald Consulting in 2013 as a government relations consultant. Before that, he served as a research consultant for the Majority Caucus in the Minnesota House of Representatives, where he worked with the Health and Human Services Committee, assisting legislators with bill drafting and policy analysis. Patrick started his political career as a researcher and constituent services writer in the House of Representatives and also worked in state government relations for the American Chemistry Council. Patrick also served in the United States Navy in communications, based in Italy with a year in Afghanistan working with the Afghan National Police. Patrick has a B.A. degree from the University of Minnesota and is a candidate for an M.A. in Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs.

What you don't know about Patrick...

Q. What is the last book you read that you would recommend?
A. Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, an amazing true story of resilience and redemption.

Q. What is the best professional advice you ever received?
A. Be humble and don’t take yourself too seriously. Modesty and earnestness are important.

Q. What is your favorite restaurant or food?
A. Really good fresh pasta (I lived in Italy for three years).

Q. What is something most people don’t know about you?
A. I served as an assistant convoy commander in Afghanistan for a year.


Jess Myers

Jess returned to Ewald Consulting in 2011 as a media and public relations specialist. He previously worked with the company from 1999 to 2001 before spending a decade as a writer and researcher in the Minnesota State Senate. Jess has extensive experience in media relations in the public and private sectors, having spent 13 legislative sessions at the Minnesota State Capitol. He serves as a media relations contact for several of Ewald Consulting’s corporate and association clients. Jess graduated with a degree in communications and journalism from the University of Minnesota Duluth. An avid freelance writer, he has had works published in major newspapers from coast to coast and serves on the editorial advisory board for USA Hockey Magazine.

What you don't know about Jess...

Q. What is your favorite city?
A. Let’s call it an unlikely tie between Duluth, Minnesota (where I attended college and met my wife) and New York City (which has vibrancy and history beyond compare).

Q. What is the best professional advice you ever received?
A. “Every generation must learn for itself that the stove is hot.” – Julius Anderson (my maternal grandfather).

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working?
A. Most of my free time is (happily) spent inside a hockey arena, either watching one of my three children play, or doing freelance sports writing, usually covering the Minnesota Wild and/or college hockey.

Q. What is something most people don’t know about you?
A. I have attended the NCAA Men’s Frozen Four more than 20 times since 1989, traveling to exotic locations like St. Paul, Milwaukee, Denver, Anaheim, Boston, Albany, Providence, Columbus, Tampa, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Cincinnati and Washington, DC.


Troy Olsen

Troy joined Ewald Consulting in March 2015 as government relations consultant. Previously, he worked for Public Affairs Company, where in addition to other accounts, he was primarily a state coordinator for Hunting Works For America program promoting the economic benefits of hunting and recreational shooting in Arizona, Utah, Oregon and Colorado. Troy also has 20 years of staff experience at the Minnesota House of Representatives. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris with a B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in Social Science.

What you don't know about Troy...

Q. What do you love about your job?
A. I miss and enjoy the people at the Capitol. Having worked there for 20 years, I know I will enjoy the opportunity to once again interact with legislators, lobbyists, staff and the general public.

Q. What is your favorite restaurant?
A. Any local VFW, American Legion or local burger place.

Q. What is the best professional advice you ever received?
A. Honesty IS the best policy.

Q. Something most people don't know about you?
A. I once was pictured on the index page of People Magazine.

Q. What do you like to do when you're not working?
A. Spending time with my family – and of course, I never seem to hunt or fish enough.


Owen Wirth

Owen Wirth joined the team in January 2015 as a government relations assistant. Before that, he served as a Legislative Assistant to the House of Representative, where he worked for the Early Childhood and Youth Development Policy Committee. Owen has a B.A degree in Political Science and Philosophy from Winona State University.

What you don't know about Owen...

Q. What is the best professional advice you ever received?
A. You have to enjoy what you do, if not it comes across your work.

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working?
A. Play music; guitar and bass. I also love to travel and go camping.

Q. What is your favorite city?
A. Vancouver. It’s beautiful and the people there are very friendly.

Q. What is something most people don’t know about you?
A. I started skating when I was 3 and played hockey for 15 years as a goalie.
