Kathie has more than 20 years of association management experience and joined Ewald Consulting in 2005. Previously, Kathie worked for the Builders Association of Minnesota (BAM) in a variety of capacities for 12 years including membership development, meeting planner, lobbyist, communications, and executive vice president. From 2001 to 2005, Kathie worked for the Midwest Society of Association Executives (MSAE) as Marketing Director; she has also owned her own marketing firm. Kathie has a B.A. in journalism from the University of Minnesota and completed the Institute for Organization Management at the University of Notre Dame. Kathie earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation in 2003, and the Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) designation in 2009.

Q. What do you love about communications and technology?
By combining good design and data, we can offer creative, measurable strategies for our clients. I also get to keep learning every day and lead an awesome team of talented graphic designers and data gurus.

Q. What is the last book you read that you would recommend?
A. Daring Greatly by Brene Brown

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working?
A. Running, writing a blog and hanging out with my family, my friends and my dogs.

Q. What is something most people don’t know about you?
A. In my first year at college, I was taking both engineering and journalism classes and chose a journalism degree in my second year. This probably explains why I enjoy left brain (data) and right brain (design) pursuits.

Laurie joined Ewald Consulting in 1990 after working in a variety of association management positions. Her position as Communication Director involves editing and proofing client publications; providing strategy for clients’ publications and communication work, and providing strategy for clients’ social media efforts. She is an active member of the Midwest Society of Association Executives. Laurie earned a B.A. in broadcast journalism from the University of Minnesota. She serves as an Adult Interpretive Volunteer at the Minnesota Zoological Garden and has served as a member of the Minnesota 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees (Board chair, 2005-07). Laurie earned her CAE designation in 1995.

What you don't know about Laurie...

Q. What do you love about the communication field?
A. Making our clients shine by polishing up grammar and spelling – and helping people say things as clearly as possible.

Q. What is the last book you read that you would recommend?
A. Thinking, Fast and Slow, by Daniel Kahneman. It was recommended by a member of a client association, and it's fascinating!

Q. What is your favorite city?
A. It's so difficult to choose just one! In addition to Minneapolis, I love NYC and Prague. There are many other places I would love to explore.

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working?
A. Go to concerts (all kinds of music, but primarily rock), volunteer at the Minnesota Zoo, hang out with family and friends.


Nicki Brunner

As Art Director, Nicki creates newsletters, brochures, websites and a variety of other communication pieces. Nicki joined Ewald Consulting in 2004, after graduating from the University of Minnesota-Duluth with a B.F.A. in graphic design and arts in media. Nicki writes a popular Twin Cities mom blog as well as serving as volunteer web designer for Northern Paws Pet Lodge, River Looks Salon, and other small, local businesses.

What you don't know about Nicki...

Q. What do you love about graphic design?
A. I love the creativity that I get to put into my work every day. Each day brings a new challenge and I enjoy using my imagination to do my "work." It's like therapy for me.

Q. What is the last book you read that you would recommend?
A. I read Tina Fey's Bossypants and laughed until I cried. It won't answer life's problems, but it will make you smile. As a mother of two with a job and a full life, this book was completely relatable and made light of stories and situations that I sometimes forget to make enjoyable.

Q. What is your favorite city?
A. New York City is the greatest city in the world!

Q. What is the best professional advice you ever received?
A. It's not necessarily "job-related," but my dad told me to always treat Mondays like Fridays at the office. It will surely bring a smile to those who treat Mondays like Mondays.


Anna Wrisky

Anna Wrisky joined Ewald Consulting in 2008 as a Communication Specialist. Previously, she worked as a graphic designer for Viking Industrial Center for more than 3 years. Anna graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 2004 with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design and minors in both Photography and Arts in Media. She worked as art director for the University newspaper, the UMD Statesman, and as a designer for UMD Sports Information.

What you don't know about Anna...

Q. What do you love about graphic design?
A. I love having the opportunity to be creative and design for clients in a wide variety of industries.

Q. What is the last book you read that you would recommend?
A. I recently read Bittersweet by Shauna Neiquist, and I highly recommend it. It’s the idea that we need both bitter and sweet, both happy and sad to make us strong, courageous, and beautiful.

Q. What is the best professional advice you ever received?
A. Strive to be professional and kind, even when it's not easy. You get better results being kind than by being upset.

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working?
A. I enjoy spending time with my family at the lake or outdoors. I love photography and I wear my camera around my neck 90% of the time I’m out of the office, capturing life’s moments. I enjoy happy hours on a patio, reading, learning other people’s stories and gardening.


Jillian Blanc

Jillian joined the Ewald Consulting team in 2015 after graduating from the Art Institute of Minnesota with associate degrees in web and graphic design. She is currently involved in the mobile web development process with the design team. She also studied design and business at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida.

Jacksonville, Florida

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working?
Traveling and exploring new places as often as I can.

Q. What do you love about your job?
I love meeting new people and working together for the best possible outcome.

You can never go wrong with the Lowry's eggs benedict and hash browns.


Mei Li Brown

Mei Li joined the Ewald Consulting team in 2018 after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in December of 2017. She graduated with a B.A. in Communication Arts: Radio, TV, & Film and certificate in Digital Studies. Prior to graduation, Mei Li worked as lead webmaster at the university’s wellness and recreation department.

What you don't know about Mei Li...

Q. What do you love about your job?
I love any kind of creative, hands-on work that allows me to jump into a project and contribute to a great whole. 

Q. What is your favorite city?
My favorite city is Madison, WI where I went to college. I absolutely love the college atmosphere, the Saturday morning farmer’s markets, and spending warm afternoons with friends at the Terrace.

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working? 
I love exploring new places, trying new food, and spending time with friends, family, and my dog Hazel. 

Q. What is something most people don’t know about you?
I was adopted from China when I was 18 months old.

Sijia joined the Ewald Consulting team in 2017 as a Communication Specialist. Previously, she worked as a graphic/web designer at the University of North Dakota for two years. She graduated from the University of North Dakota with a B.S. in Graphic Design Technology and a certification in Entrepreneurship.

Q. What do you love about your job?
Bringing ideas into reality.

Q. What is your favorite city?
The answer might be boring, but my favorite city is Minneapolis.

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working?
I love traveling to new destinations and capturing the moment with my camera.

I wasn’t a dog person until I got Dino, my German Shepard puppy.


Brian Fewell

Brian joined Ewald in 2015, bringing several years of experience in written and visual communication. After receiving his B.A. in English, he spent 5 years writing software documentation for IBM. He is a self-taught graphic designer and perpetual student who enjoys learning new skills.

Q. What do you love about your job?
The people I work with.

Q. What is your favorite city?
I couldn't pick just one favorite, but I really like Boston and NYC.

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working?
Gardening, puns, artistic pursuits, incorrect punctuation – spending time with my husband and pets.

The novelization of Stranger Things.


Jessica Gill

Jessica joined Ewald Consulting in 2006. She has been involved in marketing and desktop publishing, website development, database management, event planning, member and committee relations, and program development for a variety of our association clients. Jessica is a graduate of Carroll College in southwest Montana with B.A. degrees in communications and public relations. She is involved in the Helena Young Professionals group (HYP) and the Montana Society of Association Executives.

What you don't know about Jessica...

Q. What do you love about your job?
A. I love helping to organize webinars, on-demand learning and teleclasses for our members. It’s a great feeling to help the trainers and speakers put on the best possible program to provide members with networking and education. We’ve done webinars for speakers and attendees from all across the world and it’s awesome to connect association members in a true global community.

Q. What is your favorite city?
A. Favorite city to live in: Helena, MT, which just happens to be where I live now. Favorite city to visit: Galway, Ireland.

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working?
A. A lot of my non-working hours are spent chasing my two boys (4 and 1). When they are sleeping, I also enjoy reading and of course, we spend a lot of time enjoying the “Big Sky” in the great outdoors here in Montana.

Q. What is something most people don’t know about you?
A. I am a giant fan of the TV show, Dr. Who.


Sonja Nelson

Sonja joined the Ewald Consulting team in 2017 after returning to Minnesota from a previous communications role with The Walt Disney Company in Orlando, Florida. She is a 2016 graduate of St. Olaf College where she studied English, studio art and management studies. In her free time, Sonja enjoys traveling to new places, reading the classics and spending time at her family cabin up north.

Q. What do you love about your job?
A. I enjoy the opportunity to work with so many different clients on a wide variety of projects. I love the creativity as well as the technical skill involved in digital communication.

Q. What is your favorite city?
A. Hong Kong has the perfect combination of natural and urban beauty, you’ll never get bored!

Q. What is the best professional advice you ever received?
A. When presented with an opportunity, say yes.

Q. What is something most people don’t know about you?
A. For as long as I can remember, it has been my goal in life to travel to all fifty states. I’m down to the final ten!


Sue Peterson

Sue has more than 25 years of communication and graphic design experience, joining Ewald Consulting in 2002 where she has been the Executive Director for the Association of Girl Scout Executive Staff (AGSES), Managing Director for The Forum: Business Results Through People, and Director of Membership for the Incentive Marketing Association (IMA) while also providing communication and graphic design services for Ewald clients. Previously, Sue has held the positions of communications director, administrative director and volunteer coordinator in several non-profit work environments. She began her professional career with 3M in St. Paul, MN after graduating from Rochester Community & Technical College.

Q. What is the last book you read that you would recommend?
A. Killing Lincoln, by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard.

Q. What is the best professional advice you ever received?
A. “Don’t be late.” My dad always said that if you start your work day on time, you’re laying the groundwork for not only a successful day, but a successful life.

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working?
A. Horseback riding.

Q. What is something most people don’t know about you?
A. I love road trips …and must have Twizzlers to eat at specific distances along the way!


Sue Yoemans

Sue Yoemans joined Ewald Consulting in 2013 as a part-timer to help with the YourMembership transitions and has recently been hired on full-time as a communications specialist. She has a B.A. in Art from College of St. Benedict. Previously, Sue worked as an Embroidery Artist. She served on the board for the Minnesota Dairy Goat Association. She enjoys thrift store shopping, playing volleyball, and showing dairy goats.

What you don't know about Sue...

Q. What do you love about communications and graphic design?
I love helping clients get their ideas down on paper in a visually pleasing and creative way.

Q. What is your favorite city?
I love London, England because it is full of history, culture and fun places to explore.

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working?
When I am not working, you will usually find me glued to a computer at home playing a visually stimulating video game. I also play volleyball and help on the farm that I keep dairy goats.

Q. What is something most people don’t know about you?
What? Did I just say dairy goats? Yes, I breed and show dairy goats at ADGA (American Dairy Goat Association) sanctioned shows. When my goats aren't being shown, their milk is sold to a local dairy which sells cheese at some of the Minneapolis farmers markets.


Denika Anderson

Denika joined Ewald Consulting in 2014 as a part-timer to help with the growing Webinar business. She takes direction from the full-time staff in managing website content, updating listservs, creating print materials, and other communications tasks as needed. She holds a B.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies from Bethel University (2012) and a M.A. In Women’s Studies in Religion from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities (2015).

What you don't know about Denika...

Q. What do you love about communications and graphic design?
I enjoy creating and producing tangible things — I like to see my work result in something.

Q. What is your favorite city?
I love to day-trip to Duluth, MN, but my favorite place I’ve traveled is Amsterdam.

Q. What do you like to do when you are not working?
Aside from playing with our daughter, my husband and I love to play board and strategy games. I also enjoy going on walks, reading, writing, and binge-watching British TV.

Q. What is something most people don’t know about you?
In middle and high school, attended “nerd camp” (Purdue University Gifted Education Resource Institute) for four summers, where I took classes in pharmacology, organic chemistry, epidemiology, and more.
